Joanna’s Hotel Boudoir Photos at The Standard: Breakfast in Bed With a Side of NYC

Some of my favorite sessions happen when we throw out the rulebook entirely. JoAnna’s morning shoot at The Standard was exactly that kind of experience – proof that Hotel boudoir photos don’t always need to be about sultry poses or dramatic lighting. Sometimes the most stunning and real intimacy is found in the quiet, simple moments of an ordinary morning.

When JoAnna and I first talked about her session, she expressed something I hear more and more: she wanted an experience (and ultimately stunning images) that felt authentic to who she actually is. Not performative, dressed-up or overly staged, but genuinely her. Which meant something casual and playful – and there is no one that can tell me that casual and playful can’t be sexy.

The last piece of the puzzle was finding the perfect location to match JoAnna’s vision. I decided The Standard would be perfect for capturing something naturally alluring, and (to completely toot my own horn) the results speak for themselves – these hotel boudoir photos were a dream come true when paired with the floor-to-ceiling windows, modern minimalist design, and that incredible natural light that floods every little inch of the room. (This is exactly why I provide a personal-to-you location guide for every client.)

Far From a Standard Hotel Boudoir Photoshoot

Walking into The Standard that morning, I knew we’d found the perfect backdrop for JoAnna’s vision. The clean lines and warm wood accents created exactly the simple yet intimate atmosphere we were looking for, while those floor-to-ceiling windows offered incredible natural light that would make every image glow. What I love most about this location for hotel boudoir photography is how the space feels both luxurious and completely welcoming – something I find really helps my clients shine and show exactly who they are to the camera.

We ordered breakfast and I put on some music that matched the laid-back energy we were going for. I truly find that when we tailor the experience to meet the vibe and dream outcome, we get to see real one-of-a-kind beauty.

Authentic Moments Are Anything But Standard

The few hours JoAnna and I got to spend together showcased exactly what I look for during every boudoir session – genuine, unguarded moments that reveal who you really are. JoAnna curled up with her coffee and a magazine, completely at ease. She laughed at something on her phone. She stood by the windows taking in the Manhattan skyline, her silhouette soft against the city beyond – it was exactly what we had hoped it would be.

Setting a New Standard for Boudoir Photography

The images from JoAnna’s hotel boudoir session showcase something I’m passionate about – the idea that sensuality doesn’t always have to announce itself. Your true version of “sexy” doesn’t have to be the same as someone else’s.

Some of my favorite shots show her simply existing in the space: reading while sipping orange juice, the city sprawling endlessly behind her through the floor-to-ceiling windows. The contrast between the intimate black lingerie and casual, everyday pieces like your most-worn t-shirt and underwear created something unexpectedly powerful but undoubtedly Joanna.

JoAnna’s session represents something I’ve been moving toward in my work – the understanding that intimate photography doesn’t have to follow a prescribed formula. Not every moment needs to be “sexy” in an obvious way. Sometimes the most captivating images come from capturing someone simply being comfortable in their own skin, in a beautiful space, surrounded by morning light.

Redefining the Standard of Boudoir

If JoAnna’s session speaks to you – if you’re drawn to the idea that your most beautiful moments might be the quiet ones, the unguarded ones, the authentically you ones – I’d love to explore what your own story might look like. Maybe you’re imagining yourself wrapped in morning light by a hotel window, coffee in hand and the world stretching out before you. Or perhaps you’re envisioning something completely different – barefoot in your own bedroom, laughing at something only you find funny, wearing that perfectly imperfect combination of lace and your favorite worn-in t-shirt.

The magic happens when we find the location that makes you feel most like yourself. I create detailed location guides for every client because I’ve learned that the right space can give you permission to be genuinely comfortable (which mean genuinely you). Whether that’s the sophisticated elegance of a place like The Standard, the intimacy of your own home, or somewhere completely unexpected, there’s a perfect setting, just for you, where your authentic self can shine through my lens.
