When Katie and I started talking about her gothic bride boudoir session, she knew exactly what she wanted – something beautifully curated and intentional. The second she mentioned gothic bride, I immediately thought of the HummusHome apartment.
Brigette has created this incredible space in Brooklyn that truly feels like you’ve stepped into a romantic Parisian apartment. All those vintage details and architectural elements – I knew they’d be perfect for Katie’s vision of a boudoir photoshoot at home.
There’s just something about French-inspired spaces that work so well with gothic bride aesthetics. Both are romantic, just from different perspectives. The Parisian design with all those carefully chosen antique pieces, combined with that gorgeous natural light you get in older Brooklyn buildings, created exactly what we needed. When you introduce gothic bride elements like black lace and dramatic veils into that refined environment, everything falls into place, where we can really find that beautiful contrast between old-world elegance and mysterious beauty that felt exactly right for Katie.

Katie’s Gothic Bride Boudoir Experience
We started Katie’s session in the heart of Brigette’s apartment – that perfect blend of living room and kitchen space where morning light streams through oversized windows. The HummasHome aesthetic was exactly what Katie needed: clean lines, thoughtful details, and that effortlessly curated feel that let her gothic bride vision breathe. Against Brigette’s neutral palette and carefully chosen furnishings, Katie’s black lingerie felt right at home – like she belonged there all along.
What I loved watching was how naturally Katie connected with this space. She didn’t need much direction from me – she moved with this intuitive grace, leaning against the kitchen island, using the architectural details as if they were old friends, finding her own rhythm in every corner.
I find that when clients come with such a clear vision, my job becomes about creating the space for their true personality to emerge through the lens. While, I was so excited to bring Katie’s gothic bride dream to life, it was honestly all her – I was just there to reflect back the confidence and beauty she already carries.
Heat, Heart, and Katie
As we moved through the session, Katie settled onto Brigette’s couch with this natural confidence that told me she was exactly where she needed to be. That’s when Ollie, Brigette’s gorgeous cat, decided he was part of the shoot. I love when pets join sessions because they bring out this authentic, joyful side of my clients that you can’t plan for. Ollie was fully committed, demanding attention, and trying his best to be the main star. Try as he might, but we know that nothing could upstage Katie.
Throughout this whole experience, Katie’s excitement about her upcoming wedding was radiating through every frame. Watching her move between playful moments with Ollie and these intimate, romantic shots was incredible. We captured this perfect balance of sensual and romantic that felt exactly right for a bride-to-be who knows her own style.

Throughout the session, Katie’s excitement about her upcoming wedding was just radiating from her, and I could see her gothic bride vision taking shape with every shot. When I suggested we bring in the black veil, she didn’t even hesitate – she knew exactly what that would add to her story. The Skims pieces I’d suggested to her were perfect for what she had in mind, and you could tell she felt incredible in them.
What I loved most was watching Katie with that black veil – the way she’d let the light play across the delicate fabric, those soft smiles that looked like she was already dreaming about her wedding day. The veil brought this romantic mystery that was exactly what her gothic bride aesthetic needed. She knew what she wanted these images to say about this moment in her life.
One Final Cheetah Moment
For our final look, Katie changed into this incredible cheetah print set that completely transformed the energy of the session. If the black pieces were elegant and gothic bride perfection, the cheetah print was pure confidence and sass. Katie owned every single pose in this outfit – from playful shots to more intimate moments that showcased her bold personality.
The cheetah print against the neutral background created this perfect contrast, and Katie’s energy in these pieces was infectious. These final images perfectly captured the fun, fearless side of Katie that makes her who she is.

What Katie has to say about her boudoir experience:
“Elsie!! I just wanted to say thank you so much again, today was fantastic and I can’t wait to see the photos and put the book together. I know I may come across fairly confident and comfortable in my skin, but it wasn’t always like that. Every now and then I still struggle with those insecurities so it was just really nice to come into something like this feeling comfortable and that’s all because of you! Thank you for being amazing and really putting me at ease and hyping me up the entire time. I so appreciate it and feel so beautiful and will hold onto these photos and the memory of the shoot fondly. Oh and an even bigger thank you for not being annoyed I showed up early and for letting me use your house to get ready truly a 10/10 experience I will be telling everyone about it. THANK YOU” – Katie
