Underwater maternity photography offers something so much more than a unique backdrop. When submerged, everything changes. The way your body moves, the way light finds you, the way you inhabit a space that doesn't ask you to hold still and smile. Gravity releases. What feels heavy above the waterline becomes weightless below it. These elements combined really personify that mixture of wonder, magic, and challenge that so many pregnancies create.
I've trained with a world-renowned underwater photographer from Australia to perfect this work, and I now offer it here in New York (and beyond). While the idea of underwater maternity photography can sound complicated, when we're together, it never will be. I find the pool, coordinate the rental and handle every logistic detail to make sure we're capturing this season with grace and ease.

A one-of-a-kind aquatic maternity session celebrating pregnancy in a fluid, weightless, and playful way. The experience is fully handled, deeply personal, and unlike anything else you'll find.
In addition to underwater maternity photos, I offer a range of maternity photography for expectant mothers and families. If you're looking to capture this season on dry land, here are some options beyond the pool.
Pair your underwater session with a shoot above the surface at a location that feels like you — a park, a rooftop, a street you've always loved, or cozy at home with your better half.
Nothing says growing family like a soon to be big brother or sister. Capture everyone's excitement around the bump with a family shoot. Whether we're at home or running around the city together, I'll always strive to capture your family and pregnancy in a natural light.
Your body is designed to do this—celebrate that beauty of what you're creating through maternity boudoir photography. I'm here to capture your pregnancy in a way that feels intimate, empowering, and completely you.

How it Works
1.
First we'll talk. Not about poses or bathing suits right away (though we'll get there), but about who you are and what you're hoping to feel when you look at these images years from now. This is how I know we're the right fit, and how I start building a session that's actually yours.
2.
Once we've decided to work together, I take care of everything. I source and book the pool, handle the rental logistics, and send you a full prep guide covering what to wear for your underwater maternity session, breathing techniques, what to expect in the water, and how to prepare for the day.
3.
In the water, I'll guide you through poses that work with your body and with the way light moves. Nothing forced. Within 72 hours, you'll have a sneak peek. Your full underwater maternity gallery arrives within 3–4 weeks (or before with an expedited add on).
Before we take the plunge — let me tell you a little about who you'd be getting in the water with.
Underwater maternity photography requires a specific kind of trust. You're floating in a pool, visibly pregnant, with a camera pointed at you. That only works when you feel genuinely at ease with the person on the other side of it, which is why this part matters.
I grew up working with children and families. I'm an aunt now, and I’ve seen how quickly even the hardest seasons become the ones you reach for later. The ones that feel ordinary, or exhausting, or enormous, are the ones you'll ache for in ten years. That's why I photograph them.
Aquatic pregnancy portraits drew me in because of what water does to the human body and the way a camera sees it. Submerged, everything softens. What might feel burdensome, different or changing above the waterline becomes graceful and new below it. It gives you the chance to experience in that moment all the magic that is happening, with none of the gravity. I can’t wait to show you that experience.
Get to Know Me
I’ve worked with so many different photographers over the last ten years so I feel like I have a good gauge on what an ideal experience is. Elsie is simply amazing. She has an incredibly positive personality and has this natural ability to make you feel comfortable in front of the camera. When we did my underwater maternity shoot she made me feel so secure and at ease about my body and the pictures were more than I could have imagined.
- Lissie
Working with Elsie was an awesome experience! We did a family shoot and an underwater shoot together, and all I can say is WOW. The underwater shoot was so playful, fun, and incredibly unique and I had a BLAST floating around in a pool while she made art out of me and my belly. She helped me see my growing body in such a beautiful way, and the photos she took will forever be some of my favorite pictures of myself and my family. Such special, cherished memories that I will hold onto forever.

Thank you for suggesting such a casual session. I never would have thought photos like this would have came from you coming to hangout at our house. I will cherish these forever.
- Kim
Elsie is beyond talented and so fun to work with! Our photos came out better than we could’ve imagined and will be something we can cherish for the rest of our lives! She was our ultimate hype woman and I cannot thank her enough for her hard work and time

I source pools throughout New York City and the surrounding area — locations chosen specifically for depth, natural light, and privacy. I handle all scouting and rental coordination, and I'll share personalized location suggestions based on your vision during our consultation. For clients outside NYC: I travel widely. About 70% of my work is out of state or international. If you're looking for the best underwater maternity photographer near you and you're not in New York, reach out — it's very likely we can make it work.
For most healthy pregnancies, yes, and many clients describe the session as one of the most physically comfortable they've had while pregnant. The water supports your weight in a way nothing else does at 30+ weeks. That said, I always recommend clearing it with your doctor or midwife before booking, particularly for third trimester underwater maternity photography. Underwater maternity photography safety is something we discuss thoroughly during our consultation, and I will never push you toward anything that doesn't feel right for your specific pregnancy.
I send every client a detailed prep guide before the session covering: what to wear for underwater maternity photos, hair and makeup considerations for aquatic sessions, breathing techniques for any moments below the surface, and exactly what to expect on the day. Nothing is left to figure out on your own.
Opt for anything that's going to make you feel the most beautiful! Most of my clients wear a bikini, but flowing fabrics photograph beautifully in water — chiffon, silk, and lightweight cotton all move in ways that are genuinely stunning underwater. I'll walk you through specific options, styling, and what to avoid during our consultation.
Yes — frequently. I travel up to 50 miles before travel fees apply, and I travel much farther regularly. If I'm already heading to your city, there's no additional travel fee. Families fly me in for sessions often. Reach out and let's look at the calendar.

Let's Dive In!
Your pregnancy is writing a story that has never existed before and will never exist again quite like this. Not because it needs to be perfect or Instagram-worthy, but because it is yours. Because this body, doing this specific thing, at this exact moment, is extraordinary whether it feels that way or not.
Underwater maternity photography gives me the chance to show you something true: the way pregnancy looks when gravity finally lets go.
I'd love to be the one who captures it.
