Rain on Your Wedding Day? Gabriel & Madison’s Vizcaya Wedding Do-Over Was Even Better

Day after sessions are the best because all the wedding day nerves are gone, you’re officially married (still gets me every time!), and you get to just soak in being newlyweds without worrying about timelines or guest lists or – let’s be honest – the weather cooperating. And like many couples before them, Gabriel and Madison had their Vizcaya wedding day beautifully planned, but Mother Nature had other ideas and decided to rain. All. Day. Long.

But here’s the thing about these two – they didn’t let a little (okay, a lot of) rain dampen their spirits. They celebrated with their guests, danced in the downpour, and said their vows surrounded by everyone they love.

And then they gave themselves the gift of a day-after session at Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, where they could focus entirely on each other, Madison could show off that gorgeous gown the way she’d always envisioned, resulting in some of my favorite Vizcaya wedding photos. We showed up early when the light was soft and perfect, and these two placed themselves in all those dreamy spots they’d been imagining, allowing themselves to be completely themselves.

The Day After a Vizcaya Wedding: Finding Gabriel & Madison Their European Romance Before Their European Adventure

You know that feeling when you step into a place that makes you forget what century you’re in? That’s exactly what happens at Vizcaya Museum and Gardens – this incredible Italian Renaissance villa sitting right on Biscayne Bay that somehow makes Miami feel like the Amalfi Coast (but with better Cuban food).

When Gabriel and Madison told me they wanted their wedding to feel both grand and intimate, European and tropical, and that they were about to embark on a six-month European adventure right after getting married, I knew a day-after session at Vizcaya would be the perfect way to start their marriage off right.

Old-World Elegance and Miami Electricity

Planning a Vizcaya wedding means embracing the most beautiful contradiction – you’re getting married in what feels like a European palazzo, but you can literally see downtown Miami’s skyline sparkling across the water. And while all the grandeur makes the perfect venue, it can be hard to capture it with all the chaos of the big day. So a wedding day after session can be like taking a big breath. Time slows down, you get to wear what you want (even if it’s another chance to show off your wedding bests).

Madison looked absolutely ethereal as she changed early and gave her gown the spotlight it deserved, flowing through those ornate doorways and catching the morning light in a way that just wasn’t possible during the rainy ceremony. Gabriel couldn’t stop grinning (the man was glowing) as he watched her move through the courtyard with incredible columns as their backdrop.

The Vizcaya wedding photos from this session capture something I’m always chasing – that perfect balance where the grandeur of the location enhances rather than overwhelms the intimacy of the moment.

Starting Forever Off The Right Way (A.K.A. Your Way)

After Gabriel and Madison spent their wedding day celebrating with so many guests (which was beautiful and exactly what they wanted), this day after session became about focusing just on them.

There’s something about the way the morning light filters through those ancient oak trees that makes everything feel like a dream sequence. The real magic happened when these two could just be together – dancing on the stone terraces overlooking the bay, Madison twirling in her dress the way she’d always imagined, Gabriel pulling her close without worrying about keeping to a schedule.

Despite it being the day after, I wanted to take Vizcaya Miami wedding photos that transported Madison and Gabriel right back to how their celebration felt – the salty breeze and the way they looked at each other, ultimately knowing they were about to start the adventure of a lifetime.

We wandered through the gardens for some of my favorite Vizcaya wedding pictures – Madison and Gabriel stealing quiet moments between the formal hedgerows, sharing inside jokes while peacocks literally strutted past them in the background (because apparently that’s just a Tuesday in Miami), and just being completely present with each other before flying off to Europe for six months.

Why Adding on A Day After Session is Worth It

Here’s what I love about what Gabriel and Madison did: they didn’t let the rain “ruin” anything. They celebrated with their people on their wedding day, then gave themselves this gift of time to focus on the dress, the place, and most importantly, each other.

This is starting a marriage off right – knowing when to share the celebration and when to claim intimate moments just for the two of you.

What Day-after sessions at Vizcaya offer you:

Actually use your dress the way you’ve been dreaming about

Change early and take your time getting ready without ceremony pressure

Go early when the light is perfect and the crowds are minimal

Place yourselves exactly where you want to be

Just be and be yourselves without performing for anyone

Focus on each other instead of hosting

Let’s Create Your Own Vizcaya Love Story

Whether you’re planning your big ceremony here and want to add a day-after session, or your wedding day didn’t go exactly as planned weather-wise, or you just want those intimate portraits without the pressure – let’s talk about creating Vizcaya Museum and Gardens wedding photos that are completely, authentically you.
