There’s something magical about walking through life with clients who feel like old friends. And in Chantel and Joey’s case, they literally are! My lens has been present at every major milestone: from their dreamy engagement session to their unforgettable wedding day at Roundhouse in the Hudson Valley, and now, as they await the arrival of their first child. These moments weave a narrative of love, growth, and connection that I am honored to capture, and their maternity photography session in their cozy NYC apartment is one for the books.
Chantel and Joey’s apartment was buzzing with anticipation and joy as they prepared for their baby-to-be. In the nursery, with paint brushes in hand, the couple worked together to bring their vision to life. Their sweet dog stayed close, offering tail wags of approval as they limewashed the walls a gorgeous shade of green.
Later, in the living room, Chantel and Joey let loose. They danced joyfully, reveling in the sheer fun of this chapter in their lives. Between bursts of laughter and cups of coffee, there were quiet, tender moments on the couch where they held each other, reflecting on how far they’ve come and how much they’ve built together.
At home maternity photography isn’t about perfection.
It’s about the authenticity of a couple creating memories in their home, just as they are.
For me, maternity photography isn’t just about snapping beautiful pictures; it’s about storytelling.
As an artist, I’m endlessly inspired by the idea of documenting life in motion; these fleeting stages that define our human experience. Watching Chantel and Joey grow from a starry-eyed engaged couple to parents-to-be feels like reading a favorite novel and getting to turn the page to the next chapter. These sessions remind me that love evolves, families grow, and the everyday magic of life is worth preserving.
There’s something profoundly intimate about stepping into my clients’ world. Being in their homes, witnessing their quirks, and capturing what makes their bond unique. These sessions aren’t just portraits, they’re visual love letters to life’s ever-changing seasons.
Fun fact about this maternity session:
This session with Chantel and Joey felt particularly special because we happen to go way back (even before the engagement). Chantel and I met in college, where we bonded over late-night talks and shared meals. I once taught her how to make a salmon recipe she still uses to this day! The highest compliment, if you ask me.
Watching her journey from those college days to now, as she prepares to welcome her first child, has been nothing short of incredible. That’s the beauty of building lifelong relationships with clients — they stop being just clients and become part of your extended family. Documenting their lives becomes less about work and more about celebrating their stories alongside them.
For expecting parents, maternity photography is about more than having keepsakes, they’re literal time capsules. They capture not only what you looked like but also how you felt: excited, nervous, and brimming with love.
