Four Reasons to Have a Day-After Session

What is a day-after session?? And why are we so into them?!

Think about this as your “just married” portrait session, just not on your wedding day! Usually these are planned for the day-after your wedding day and usually in a different location, but can take place whenever and wherever you like! It’s a way to have less stress on your wedding day and more time to enjoy your portrait session. We love sunset or sunrise sessions in a super picturesque location!

Now that we know what a day-after session is, let’s dive into some reasons that I think you should consider having a day-after session!

1. You get to enjoy your cocktail hour!

A day-after session allows you to enjoy your cocktail hour at your wedding with your friends and family! Most cocktail hours happen at sunset, which is usually the ideal time for bride and groom photos, which means you miss out on your own cocktail hour!

Amanda and Cory’s wedding was such a perfect example of this, as sunset was right during cocktail hour and it was important for them (and me!!) not to miss that. I am really pro my couples being at their own cocktail hours. It was nice to let them greet guests and capture that special moment rather then dragging them away from their party.

2. The Perfect Timeline

Day After sessions allow for a much shorter and smoother wedding day timeline. At Amanda and Cory’s wedding, they opted to do a first look, where we took several quiet minutes after to take in these moments. We got the rest of her bridal party together for a few fun moments to hang, drink and mingle before the rest to their guests arrived and it was the sweetest time.

3. The Perfect Location

Another reason I love day after sessions is because you can pick a super unique and special location to have your wedding photos. Cory and Amanda’s wedding took place at Sole East in Montauk and it was a beautiful venue. They were able to get stunning photos at their venue during their first look on their wedding day. You also get the opportunity to wear different outfits! Many couples like to put back on their wedding attire, but Amanda and Cory opted for slightly different outfits and I loved the dimension it brings to their wedding gallery!

We head down to the iconic cliffs at Shadmoor State Park in Montauk the next day at sunset. They really wanted a mix of beachy and beautiful landscape photos and I think we were able to achieve this during this stunning sunset day after session.

4. You won’t be rushed at your Day-After Session

A day-after session allows us for so much free time and to not be rushed at your session!
We had two full hours to run around with no agenda or anywhere to be.

The photos reflected their calmness and happiness and Amanda’s mom was even able to join us and hang out with us. It was such a special time hanging out with them and getting to create these fun moments as newlyweds!
